Al-Hasakah - SMART

A private source reported that several Jordanian officers are supervising the training of the border guards of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Sabah al-Kheir camp, Southern al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria.

The source said that six Jordanian officers and four others from the International Coalition supervised the training of the fourth group of recruits to become border guards. The source added that the training lasted 18 days and included using American-made light weapons.

The graduates of the fourth class were deployed along the Syrian-Turkish border and the Syrian-Iraqi border. According to the source, each border guard signed a 23-month contract entitling him/her to a 115,000 Syrian pound monthly salary.

The source also reported that there is no Saudi military influence in the SDF-controlled areas, assuming that there will be a Saudi influence in the future.

In January 2018, the International Coalition announced its intention of forming a border guard force of 30,000 fighters to be deployed to the Syrian border areas under SDF control. The announcement came after a meeting between the coalition and the SDF, and was condemned by Russia and Turkey.
