Hama, SMART

Residents of the city of Hama controlled by the Syrian government in Central Syria complain about the significant recent increase in electricity bills after power rationing decreased.

On Tuesday, local sources reported that residents were surprised by the significant increase in recent bills, which came to 50,000 Syrian pounds where previously they were 5,000 Syrian pounds maximum.

Officials from the electricity establishment attributed the increase in prices to the rationing of electricity to only two or three hours per day. Previously, electricity would be available for three hours and then unavailable for three.

Many residents refused to pay the new bills and submitted complaints to have them decreased. These efforts have all been in vain, according to the sources.

Residents of Hama have complained about the spread of respiratory and skin diseases caused by the pollution from the Orontes stream. The residents holds the Syrian government as responsible.
