Turkey, SMART

On Wednesday, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister called upon the foreign troops in the de-escalation areas to withdraw as soon as possible.

The Russian news agency of Sputnik  reported Lavrov saying,”  Russia is still working with the United States and Jordan to ensure stability at the Southern borders of Syria with Jordan and Israel.”

Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian deputy foreign minister, stated in a press conference that Jordan suggested holding a triple meeting about Syria in the Jordanian capital of Amman on ministers level. Bogdanov added that Russia is waiting for the U.S response to agree on the details of the meeting.

On Tuesday, Lavrov stated in a press conference in Moscow that the Syrian government forces are the sole side that should deploy to the Southern borders.

Lavrov’s statements follow the U.S threats of taking firm measures against the Syrian government in case the Syrian government violated the ceasefire in Southern Syria.

Last week, the Russian troops at the Hmeimim airbase said that the end of de-escalation agreement in the city of Daraa will be eventual amidst with the existence of the Islamic State and the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham( formerly al-Nusra Front). A commander of the Free Syrian Army considered the statements a Russian attempt to stir sedition in the area.
