Aleppo - SMART

Syrians who enter Northern Syria from Turkey participate in driving the local economic growth and activating transportation movement and financial exchange.

The Head of the Trade Office of the Local Council of Azaz, Northern Aleppo, Northern Syria, said that the Eid vacation visits have a positive impact on the economy. Clothing, food, drink, and transportation markets have become more active, as well as a money transfer from Turkey to Syria.

The Head of the Trade Office, Ibrahim Dirbala, predicted that local economy would grow by 40% after it was 10% last year.  The economy has grown after repelling the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Afrin and connecting Northern Aleppo with Western Aleppo and Idlib. Connecting the three areas activates the transportation and interior trade movements.

Dirbala added that the merchant's chances of returning from Turkey are timid, due to the unstable security. The merchants benefit the urban growth by 10% and by 20% for total investments.

Two days ago, the Bab al-Salama crossing administration, Azaz, reported that 8499 Syrian refugees entered Syria from Turkey within nine days, after the crossing opened for visits.

The Turkish Government allows a limited number of Syrian refugees in Turkey to enter Syria during Ramadan, for the Eid vacation. The government allows them to return to Turkey after the period expires.
