Daraa - SMART

On Thursday, factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and al-Islam Army arrested three members of the Islamic State (ISIS). The members entered the town of al-Maliha al-Sharqia, coming from the as-Suwayda governorate.

The head of the police station of the town, who introduced himself as Abu Mahdi, said that the three members fought in the ranks of ISIS in Southern Syria before they evacuated to the Kara’ area in the Syrian steppe. The members entered the village of Sama al-Hanidat in as-Suwayda before moving on to Daraa.

Abu al-Mahdi noted that the police arrested the three members in coordination with the al-Islam Army, Jund al-Malahim, Shabab al-Sunna, and Shuhadaa al-Huria factions in the town of al-Maliha al-Sharqia. Abu al-Mahdi added that the members admitted that there are other ISIS members attempting to infiltrate Daraa.

Abu al-Mahdi said that the factions will transport the members to the Justice House Court in Houran following the initial investigation.

FSA factions arrested ISIS members who entered Daraa using the same method earlier.

The Syrian government expelled dozens of ISIS members from the district of al-Hajar al-Aswad, the al-Yarmouk refugee camp, and the al-Tadamon and al-Qadam districts in Southern Damascus to the Syrian steppe near as-Suwayda as part of an agreement  between both sides. Upon the agreement, the Syrian government gained control of the area and those who wished to leave headed to either the steppe or Northern Syria.
