Aleppo - SMART

Activists from the Afrin area in Aleppo, Northern Syria, accuse the al-Suleiman Shah Brigade of the Syrian National Army of torturing a person to death. The al-Suleiman Shah Brigade denied the accusation, claiming that the person died of disease.

The activists reported that a dispute started among youths in the area. During the dispute, the al-Suleiman Shah Brigade fighters arrested Ahmad Sheikho, the deputy head of the local council of Nahiyat al-Sheikh Hadeed. The activists added that Sheikho died while being tortured and the al-Suleiman Shah Brigade fighters beat women.

A commander of the al-Suleiman Shah Brigade denied the accusation, saying that Sheikho died of a severe asthma attack, as he had been suffering from asthma since before his detention. The commander noted that there are medical reports that prove the real reason behind Sheikho's death.

On Monday, the al-Shamiya Front of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) arrested dozens of people in Nahiyat Ma’batli in the Afrin area, northwest of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

Activists speak of violations committed by the FSA factions against civilians in Afrin, like evicting local residents from their homes and letting internally displaced persons from Eastern Ghouta move in. The FSA justifies the step by saying that the owners of the houses were fighters of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units.
