Idlib - SMART

On Tuesday, primary and secondary school certificate exams began at the examination centers of the Education Directorate in the Syrian Interim Government, Idlib, Northern Syria.

The head of the examination department, Ali Qasum, told SMART that the number of students applying for certificate exams is about 22265. The number of female students is about 9,000.

Qasum added that 2,500 teachers supervise the examinations accross 179 centers throughout Idlib. There are also 115 basic education centers and 64 secondary education centers.

The examination centers were distributed accross the cities of Idlib, Maarrat al-Nu'man, Jisr al-Shughur, Harim, Khan Sheikhan, and the refugee camps in Ariha.

He also stated that the Free Police are responsible for securing and protecting the examination centers. The Free Police has sent its members to act as guards at the centers, in addition to raising student awareness in taking appropriate actions when entering and exiting the centers.

Mohammed Baraa, a secondary school student, considered that the first exam questions were suitable for all students, especially for those who live in difficult circumstances as a result of displacement and shelling. He noted that teacher supervision was "severe", and that the Free Police spread its security at the exam center.

The educational process in areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army and the Islamic Battalions suffer from great difficulties, including the bombing of schools and lack of support.
