Al-Raqqa - SMART

The first response team retrieved 96 bodies from a garden in al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria. The bodies were buried while the Islamic State had control over the city.

A source of the al-Raqqa Civil Council reported that the team retrieved the bodies from the al-Bayda garden in the al-Firdous neighborhood, weeks after working. He added that the team would continue to retrieve bodies from the al-Panorama garden after receiving permission from the victims’ families.

The first response team has retrieved bodies from the mass grave in the al-Rashid stadium, al-Raqqa. The team retrieved the bodies after finding 500 others.

The first response team provides services in al-Raqqa, such as retrieving bodies and rescuing the injured and the sick.

Before the SDF gained control over al-Raqqa, the IS buried hundreds of people in mass graves. The people were killed by the International Alliance, clashes or field executions.
