Daraa – SMART

The Free Daraa governorate council registers 3,000 people fled from the Daraa governorate, Southern Syria, in three days.

Imad al-Batin, the head of the governorate council, reported that 4,000 families, who are registered in local councils of the towns and cities of Daraa, fled the governorate. Al-Batin added that the number of people who fled Daraa from the beginning of the military operations last years reached 8,000 people.

In the last three days, the Syrian government's bombing of the cities and towns of Eastern Daraa killed and injured dozens of civilians.

Al-Batin said that eight members from several councils would form a board to ease the suffering of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), as the board will communicate with relief organizations to provide essential service for the IDPs. The board will operate in the Eastern and Western sectors of Daraa, and it will include several members from the local councils.

Al-Batin added that the organization promised to provide tents, mattresses, and blanket for IDPs. The organization will buy the materials from local markets. Al-Batin pointed out that the governorate council could not afford to pay any amount of money to cover the needs of IDPs.

The United Nations expressed their deep concern about 750,000 civilians in the Daraa governorate. The UN registered displacement occurrence from Daraa to the Syrian-Jordanian border.

Last summer, Russia, the USA, and Jordan concluded a de-escalation agreement that declared Daraa a de-escalation zone. Despite this agreement, the Syrian government deployed forces to Daraa to seize all areas outside the Syrian government's control.
