Idlib - SMART

On Friday, the Bab al-Hawa Hospital, 34 kilometers north of Idlib, Northern Syria, announced that it suspended its operations of non-emergent medical conditions, in protest against continued kidnappings and detentions of medical staff.

In a statement, the hospital management said that it announced the suspension of all its operations of non-emergent medical conditions on Saturday. It also suspended the work of external clinics, while the hospital's ambulatory department continues its work.

The statement stated that this action is due to the current security conditions, and the continuing kidnappings and detentions of medical staff in the region.

On Wednesday, the Idlib Pharmacists Union began a short strike due to attacks on medical staff. The Free Lawyers Union also called for their protection. On Tuesday, medical bodies in the city of Idlib announced their three-day strike to protest against violations that they are exposed to in the city.

Since months, theft and kidnapping gangs have spread in the areas outside Syrian government control in Northern Syria. The gangs demand families of the kidnapped people for a ransom to release them. Also, military factions have arrested medical and humanitarian organizations staff on various charges.
