Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Sunday, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration shut down most of the services in the city of al-Raqqa in Northeastern Syria. The Administration announced a state of emergency due to the security tension between its security forces (Asayish) and the al-Raqqa Revolutionaries Brigade.

Sources from the city told SMART that the security tension coincided with a cellular communication cut in the city, as well as the cutting of telephone landlines and closing of Internet cafes and shop. The Asayish forces also imposed a curfew.

The sources added that the curfew also led to the closure of all pharmacies, in addition to the closure of the Dar al-Shifaa Hospital, the Ahli hospital and the military hospital in the neighborhood of Rumaila. However, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) opened the Modern Medicine Hospital.

According to a source from the Asayish forces, the wounded fighters are being transferred to the al-Tabaqa military hospital (43 kilometers west of al-Raqqa), while the entry and exit of civilians is prohibited.

The sources said that the city's media offices have also stopped working due to the Internet cut-off and curfew. The sources noted that the offices of the Ronahi channel, the Hawara agency, and the Euphrates radio are all closed within the city of al-Raqqa, but they operate from their offices in the city of al-Tabaqa and the countryside of al-Raqqa.

The offices of the civil council, the city council, and the people's municipality of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration were also closed, and the communications and energy center in the city was closed.

The trade movement stopped completely in the city of al-Raqqa after the Asayish forces imposed a state of emergency in the city. The al-Raqqa Revolutionaries Brigade issued a statement saying that its headquarters had been attacked by the Syrian Democratic Forces. The statement called on the International Coalition and the United States to intervene.

Since the beginning of June, a noticeable tension between the YPG and the al-Raqqa Revolutionaries Brigade has grown in the city of al-Raqqa, after the YPG arrested a number of the Brigade's members. The two parties clashed, resulting in injuries and popular demonstrations demanding the expulsion of the YPG from the city.
