Rif Dimashq - SMART

On Sunday, the Syrian government-controlled city council of Harasta in Eastern Ghouta, Rif Dimashq, Southern Syria, demanded that its residents remove the rubble of their homes within 10 days. A large number of people expressed their discontent at the decision.

On its Facebook page, the city council said that house owners must remove the rubble of their houses from the streets within 10 days. The Syrian government has opened the main service roads in the city as part of the first stage of the city's reconstruction plan.

The council added that it will fine houseowners who leave the rubble of their houses in the street after the 10 day deadline.

One of the residents of Harasta expressed his discontent at the council's decision, because he cannot afford the cost of the removal. A large number of the city's residents share his discontent.

The loyalist forces bombed the city of Harasta when the city was still controlled by the Free Syrian Army and the Islamist factions. The bombing destroyed residential buildings and city infrastructure.

In April, the Syrian government forces seized total control of Eastern Ghouta after the last group of opposition fighters and civilians left the city of Douma. The loyalist forces launched an intense military operation in Eastern Ghouta in March and April, destroying vast areas and killing and injuring thousands of civilians.
