Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Monday, unknown gunmen injured three fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the town of Ain Issa, 50 kilometers north of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

A source in the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in Ain Issa reported that unknown gunmen opened fire at a security patrol of the Kurdish intelligence forces on the road between Ain Issa and al-Raqqa. The source added that the shooting injured three fighters, causing major injuries to some of them. The SDF transported the injured fighters to the military hospital in Ain Issa.

The source, which preferred to remain unknown, noted that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) accused local tribes of injuring the fighters. According to the source, the local tribes support terrorists, in reference to the Islamic State (ISIS) and the al-Raqqa Martyrs’ Brigade, whose relations with the SDF are tense.

On Sunday, the SDF imposed a curfew in the city of al-Raqqa as tension increases between the SDF and the al-Raqqa Martyrs' Brigade. The curfew crippled economic activities and suspended services in the city.

In early June 2018, the SDF arrested fighters of the al-Raqqa Martyrs' Brigade, and clashes erupted between the two sides, injuring fighters. Protests followed the clashes, calling to expel the SDF from al-Raqqa.
