Aleppo - SMART

On Sunday, the Syrian government forces imposed tolls on vehicles transporting passengers and goods in the city of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

Local sources reported that the Syrian government forces at the Isharat al-Mashad and al-Saliheen checkpoints in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo have started imposing tolls on vehicles according to their size and passengers. The sources noted that the Syrian government forces increase the inspection of those who refuse to pay and delay their permission to cross the checkpoints.

The sources added that the fees are 200 Syrian pounds on buses transporting passengers and 500 Syrian pounds for vehicles transporting goods.

Residents of Eastern Aleppo complain about the lack of services and regular arrests of civilians. The Syrian government forces gained control of Aleppo in December 2016 following a military campaign that killed and displaced tens of thousands of civilians.
