Turkey - SMART

The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussed with the U.S. president, Donald Trump, the implementation of the Joint Road Map, on which the two countries decided about Manbij, Aleppo, Northern Syria.

The discussion took place through a phone call between the two presidents. They stressed their determination to improve the bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the military relations, according to Anadolu News Agency.

Earlier today, the Turkish Army, along with the U.S., launched the fifth division on the banks of the al-Sajour river, between the Free Syrian Army (FSA)-controlled Jarablus, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-controlled Manbij.

On June 18, the Turkish Army launched its first military patrol in the villages neighboring the al-Sajour river and the SDF-controlled areas. Later, the Turkish Army launched three more patrols.

The Turkish and U.S. patrols started operating in Manbij, after the two parties reached a road map to repel the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which lead the SDF out of the city.

On June 18, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said that the Turkish Army will enter Manbij step by step. The U.S. Central Commander, General Joseph Votel, stressed that the Turkish patrols will remain on the front lines and that they will not enter the city.
