Turkey - SMART

On Friday, an Israeli minister said that Israel must prevent entry of refugees from Syria to Israel, as fighting rages in Daraa, Southern Syria.

Energy Minister, Yuval Steinitz, said, "I think we must prevent the entry of refugees from Syria to Israel, in the past, we have prevented such cases," according to Reuters.

Steinitz added, "We will continue to do what is necessary (for the refugees). I don’t want to go into details (but) our greater worry is that Iran is trying to turn Syria into a forward military post to confront Israel."

The Israeli army said that it sent humanitarian aid last night to four sites that receive Syrian refugees on the border with Israel in Quneitra, according to the agency.

Over the past several years, many wounded Syrians have entered for treatment at medical clinics established by the Israeli army in the Golan Heights, but have not settled there.

Days ago, the Syrian government, supported by the Russian air force and foreign militias, launched a military campaign in areas outside its control in Daraa, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians and displacing tens of thousands.

The Kingdom of Jordan has also declared that its borders are entirely closed to Syrian refugees because of its inability to receive more of them.
