Daraa - SMART

On Saturday, the Syrian Civil Defense Organization said that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) fleeing the Syrian government and Russian bombing on Daraa, Southern Syria, exceeded 200 thousand.

Amr Abazaid, spokesman for the organization in Daraa, told SMART that the number of IDPs exceeded 200 thousand. There are no accurate statistics on this number.

Abazaid added that the displacement is concentrated on the border with Jordan and the occupied Golan. He said, "Civilians have left into the unknown. There is no relief agency capable to receive these numbers and building camps for them."

He stated that the Civil Defense did not receive any contacts from humanitarian organizations to assist the IDPs. He noted that people who need treatment are treated in a primitive or transferred to hospitals that are still working.

On Friday, five displaced children died as a result of scorpion bites near the town of Taiyba near the Jordanian border.

The military campaign in Daraa launched by the Syrian government and backed by the Russian air force and foreign militias, displaced tens of thousands of civilians to the border areas with Jordan, which prevented the IDPs from entering into its territory.
