Homs - SMART

The Syrian Government raised fuel prices in Northern Homs, Central Syria, to implement a new ATM system.

Local sources reported that the Syrian Government permitted fuel for only two stations in Northern Homs. The stations sell fuel for 225 Syrian pounds per liter, whereas in the free market the price varies between 210-225 SYP.

The sources added that the prices are high because the Syrian Government is implementing a new ATM system. The government will issue ATM cards for fuel. The government will specify the amount of fuel issued for people. The sources added that when the cards are issued, the fuel price will drop to 185 SYP.

A private source reported that the new ATM card project is in process, and the Syrian government will announce it soon.

The residents of Northern Homs have been suffering from harassment and high fees on cars and electricity since the Syrian government forces seized Northern Homs after reaching an agreement with the FSA. They displaced those who refused the agreement. They also complain about the reduction of the amount of bread available, and the Syrian government fighters' stealing of their motorcycles.
