Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Thursday, the military police of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration arrested 22 youths in the city of al-Tabaqa, west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria for compulsory recruitment.

A military source reported that the police established two checkpoints at the al-Shuhadaa and al-Ajrawi roundabouts at 8 am. The source noted that the police continues to establish checkpoints to arrest youths.

The Asayish security forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration prevented civilians from crossing to the al-Baa’th (al-Rasheed) dam, west of al-Raqqa, due to maintenance on the dam.

An official in the Asayish forces reported that the prevention coincided with the presence of American landmines experts and trained dogs on the road leading to the dam.

In late June, 2018, the military police arrested 14 students in the city of al-Tabaqa for compulsory recruitment. The youths arrest coincided with protests in the town of al-Karama, east of al-Raqqa, against compulsory recruitment campaigns carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
