Deir Ez-Zor - SMART

On Thursday, the International Coalition led by the United States, raided residential districts in the Islamic State-controlled countryside of Abu Kamal, 120 kilometers east of Deir Ez-Zor, Eastern Syria. The raids killed and injured dozens of civilians.

Colonel Shawn Ryan, the spokesman for the International Coalition, said that the Coalition's forces or partner forces might have raided the area, adding that reports about victims are forthcoming after the raids.

Local activists affirmed that suspected International Coalition warplanes raided the towns of al-Susah and Baguz Foqani in the Abu Kamal countryside. The raids killed 28 civilians and 26 ISIS fighters and injured dozens of civilians, including women and children.

Loyalist media channels reported that International Coalition warplanes raided the two villages, which are located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, killing 30 civilians and injuring dozens of others. The channels denied that the warplanes targeted ISIS locations in the area.

The International Coalition frequently raids the ISIS-controlled areas in Deir Ez-Zor, killing and injuring civilians. On July 1, 2018, local activists documented that the raids killed 11 civilians in June.

In recent months, several clashes between ISIS and the Syrian democratic forces (SDF), and other confrontations between the SDF and the loyalist forces occurred in Deir Ez-Zor. These clashes, in addition to the landing operations by the International Coalition, killed and injured civilians.
