Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Friday, a team of nine Syrian government engineers and other employees arrived at the al-Baath dam (also known as the al-Rasheed dam) in Western al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, to supervise the maintenance of the dam and contribute its operation.

A former administrative officer of the dam, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the team of engineers entered the dam area through the al-Resafa city road, escorted by the Kurdish intelligence service, to supervise the operation and maintenance process and contribute in running the dam, in accordance with understandings between Kurdish military and civil parties and the Syrian government.

The source added that the Syrian government's flag was raised over the dam's southern entrance for three hours.

The source estimated that more employees will enter the Tabqah dam later. One and a half month earlier, delegations from the Syrian government entered the Tabqah dam and repaired the seventh turbine.

Last year, the Syrian Democratic Forces, supported by the International Coalition's warplanes, gained control of the al-Baath dam, in addition to six villages west of al-Raqqa, after clashes with the Islamic State.
