Aleppo - SMART

Internally displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in the Deir Ballout camp in the Afrin area near Aleppo, Northern Syria, organized a sit-in to denounce the lack of services in the camp.

About 100 IDPs participated in the sit-in on Saturday, to demand that humanitarian organizations and other concerned parties provide the camp with the necessary services, especially medical and educational.

Approximately 2,000 displaced families from the towns of Southern Damascus and from the al-Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees reside in this camp. The camp is nine kilometers away from Jindayris city, and is supervised by the Turkish AFAD organization.

Earlier, the IDPs from Southern Damascus who arrived in Northern Syria complained about receiving no support after they crossed the Abou al-Zindein crossing in Aleppo. There is a conspicuous absence of relief organizations operating in the areas where IDPs have arrived.

Thousands of internally displaced persons from Southern Damascus, including a large number of Palestinian refugees, arrived in Northern Syria after the Free Syrian Army and the Islamist factions of Southern Damascus concluded displacement agreements with the Syrian government forces and Russia.
