Al-Raqqa - SMART

The Kurdish Autonomous Administration issued a statement denying the arrest of women who demonstrated to demand the release of detainees in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) prisons in the city of al-Raqqa. The Autonomous Administration stated that they arrested some women due to their relationship with the Islamic State (ISIS) or their immoral acts, according to the statement.

The media office of the Internal Security Forces, Asayish, in the city of al-Raqqa, considered what was reported about the arrest of women in the city as "disinformation reports," which aims to "threaten security and stability (...) to distort the image of reality."

The statement also said that in the recent two days, the Internal Security Forces of Women of the Autonomous Administration had arrested some women "who worked  with ISIS terrorists ... and others engaged in immoral acts." The statement added that some women hold foreign nationalities.

Earlier, local activists from the city of al-Raqqa reported that the SDF arrested more than 20 women while they were demonstrating to demand the release of their husbands and children detained by the SDF. Thus, the women jangled with the SDF members who attacked the women and arrested a number of them.

Activists from the city of al-Raqqa called for the release of the arrested women. The activists noted that some of the women had been detained with their children. They also called for an investigation into the incident and accountability of those who assaulted women. The activists warned of the negative consequences of an attack on any woman in the city.

The SDF frequently arrest young people in the Autonomous Administration-controlled areas, either on charges of belonging to ISIS or to enlist them for forced conscription into the SDF. People demonstrate against these arrests.
