Hama - SMART

The clothing merchants of Misiaf (38 kilometers southwest of Hama) went on a strike against the the Syrian government's seizure of Turkish materials.

Local activists reported that the Syrian government seized Turkish goods from the merchants of Hama. The merchants protested against this by closing their shops.

The activists said that the residents of Misiaf called upon the Syrian government to hold the people who entered the Turkish goods as accountable, instead of holding the merchants and small-scale workers as such.

They added that the al-Shabiha militias of the Syrian government threatened the Governor of Hama with dismissal in the event that they found Turkish goods being sold in stores.

The Criminal and Military Security forces of the Syrian government arrested several merchants in Hama, after they found Turkish goods in their shops. The Syrian government seized the goods.

The Hama Department of Supply employees seized goods of a value of more than 250,000 Syrian Pounds. They seized the goods to implement the Syrian Government Minister of Commerce and Protecting Customers' resolution, which requires the seizing of all anonymous goods.
