Turkey - SMART

Civil Defense volunteers operating in al-Quneitra, Southern Syria, accused their administration for abandoning them after they decided not to evacuate to Jordan (like their colleagues had), and choosing to evacuate civilians instead. The volunteers alluded to issues of corruption as well.

A Civil Defense reporter from al-Quneitra, Ayman Naser, stated that he and 17 other volunteers are in danger due to corruption in the organization. The corruption has led to secretly evacuating civilians from Southern Syria instead of volunteers, and is in coordination with the Civil Defense administration.

Naser accused the head of the organization, Raed al-Saleh, of abandoning them. Naser appealed to the Western countries that coordinated the evacuation of Civil Defense volunteers from Southern Syria, to interfere and relocate them.

Al-Saleh assured that there are still Civil Defense volunteers in al-Quneitra and Daraa. He added that they could not leave because they do not qualify the conditions or do not posess official papers.

Al-Saleh stressed that they did not evacuate anybody besides the volunteers. He pointed out that 800 people were supposed to leave, including Civil Defense volunteers and their families. Only 422 people left, including 92 Civil Defense fighters, and the rest are their families.

Al-Saleh added that they are now working on evacuating the rest of the volunteers toward Southern Syria to continue working.

Two days ago, several Civil Defense volunteers left Southern Syria for Jordan through the occupied Golan Heights. The volunteers will later be relocated in the UK, Canada or Germany, after western countries demanded Israel facilitate the evacuation process.

The Free Syrian Army has reached an agreement with Russia. The agreement requires an immediate ceasefire in Quneitra and the evacuation of those people who refuse the agreement.
