Idlib - SMART

On Wednesday, a group of schools in the town of Hayish, 42 kilometers south of Idlib, Northern Syria, organized a sit-in in solidarity with Civil Defense teams to condemn the abuse campaign by those loyal to the Syrian government.

Qutaiba Ismail, a geography teacher in a school in the town of Hayish, told SMART that all the schools, students, and teachers in the town condemned the campaign of abuse by the Syrian government forces and its allies on Civil Defense volunteers. Earlier, Civil Defense volunteers crossed to the Palestinian territories from Quneitra, escaping the Syrian government forces' persecution.

The demontrators in the sit-in expressed their appreciation for the Civil Defense volunteers' humanitarian work, which saves civilians from Syrian government and allies' bombings. The participants called for the volunteers to continue their work and indifference to campaigns that seek to distort their image.

On July 22, the Israeli Army announced the evacuation of 800 Civil Defense volunteers from the governorate of Quneitra, Southern Syria, to Jordan, in preparation for their resettlement in the European Union, Britain and Canada.
