Jordan - SMART

The UNICEF reversed its decision to fire Syrian teachers in the al-Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees, Northern Jordan.

A day ago, the UNICEF fired 900 teachers and employees, due to lack of support.

Sources, who refused to be named, reported that the UNICEF suspended the resolution after it managed to secure salaries for them until the end of the first semester (in the middle of January 2019).

The sources added that the UNICEF continues to register students, and the Jordanian Ministry of Education is working along with the UNICEF for further proceedings.

The UN and humanitarian organizations warned of a huge gap in the support needed for Syrian refugees and hosting countries, which threatens the stability and the future of refugees in these countries.

Jordan stated that it cannot handle the refugee crisis in the country. It also refused opening the border for tens of thousands of refugees escaping from the battles and bombings during the Syrian government's latest campaign on Daraa.
