Al-Raqqa - SMART

The al-Raqqa civil council of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration has completed the exhumation of bodies from the mass grave, after the exhumation of 365 bodies. The grave was found in the zoo in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

The head of the Reconstruction Committee in the al-Raqqa civil council, Ibrahim Hassan, told SMART that they managed to exhumation 365 bodies during their work, which lasted from June 21 to July 23.

Hassan added that they only handed over 31 bodies to their relatives, while they were unable to identify the identities of 334 others. Hassan stated that they buried them in the cemetery of Tal al-Bayah, known as "martyrs cemetery" east of the city.

Hassan indicated that they will begin work on the exhumation of the bodies in the city's Panorama cemetery, but they are awaiting a report from the concerned engineering team after demining is completed in the cemetery.

The Response Team continues to exhumation the bodies from the mass graves left behind by the International Coalition bombing during the battle to control the city, in addition to the graves left by the Islamic State.
