Civilians expel as-Suwayda governor and police commander from funeral

On Thursday, civilians expelled the Syrian government's governor of the al-Suwayda governorate, Southern Syria, and the as-Suwayda police commander from three youths' funeral in the area of Shahba.

Eyewitnesses reported that angry civilians expelled the governor of al-Suwayda, the police commander, and the local head of the Ba'ath Party from three youths' funeral. The youths  were killed when they took up arms against the Islamic State (IS) following the IS' sudden attack in Eastern as-Suwayda on Wednesday.

The eyewitnesses noted that the civilians expelled the Syrian government officials as they arrived to attend the funeral. The civilians cursed the officials and holds the Syrian government responsible for the IS attack. The civilians questioned the officials about why the Syrian government forces did not send military reinforcements to repel the IS attacks.

The eyewitnesses added that the governor of as-Suwayda said that the IS did not capture the missing women and children, but that they were lost between villages. The civilians interrupted the governor and expelled him.

The death toll of people killed in IS attacks in the as-Suwayda governorate, which is controlled by the Syrian government forces, Southern Syria, has risen to 400 people, mostly civilians, and 40 missing people, including women and children.
