al-Quneitra - SMART

Syrian Government forces entered al-Quneitra and the village of al-Hamidia, three kilometers north of al-Quneitra, Southern Syria. The troops came to the areas after evacuating the people who refused the agreement between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Russia.

Syrian government media reported that the forces entered the village of al-Hamidia and are sweeping the area for landmines and explosive devices. The troops raised the Syrian flag preparing to reopen government institutes.

The media added that the Syrian government forces would also raise the flag in the flag square, under the same agreement between Russia and the FSA. The FSA handed over two military vehicles and a missile launcher to the Syrian government.

Last Thursday, the FSA reached an agreement with Russia. The deal includes an indefinite ceasefire and allows the people who preferred to stay in Quneitra to reconcile with the government. The reconciliation consists of a full pardon and prevents the persecution of officers, defectors, and civilians.

The agreement was finalized after the Syrian government launched a military campaign and bombed different parts of the governorate. The attack killed and injured civilians, and displaced hundreds of families. The families fled to areas in Daraa, which recently signed agreements with Russia, or to the border with occupied Golan.
