Aleppo - SMART

People protested in the town of Maabatly, Western Afrin, 43 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria. The protesters demanded that the United Nations and the international community return internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their areas, without the Syrian government.

Around 300 people participated in the protest, including IDPs from Homs, Hama and Eastern Ghouta. They urged support for the Syrian Revolution and called for the overthrow the Syrian Government. They also raised signs saying, “Do not displace the displaced” and, “Whoever wanted to displace us, take us back and guarantee our safety.”

Thousands of IDPs from Southern Damascus, including Palestinian refugees, arrived in Afrin and other areas in Northern Syria after the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Islamic factions made agreements with Russia and the Syrian government.

The FSA factions, along with the Turkish Army, gained control over Afrin and other districts after launching a military campaign on January 21.
