Response Team finds dozens of bodies under destroyed building in al-Raqqa

On Sunday, the First Response Team in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, found dozens of bodies under a building in the al-Badou neighborhood, after complaints from residents about the spread of smells in the area.

Local sources in the city said that the smell of the bodies spread annoyingly in some neighborhoods of the city of al-Raqqa. Residents in the al-Badou neighborhood complained of the smell of a building; the First Response Team response team found dozens of bodies buried under the destroyed building.

A source from the team told SMART that they found 30 bodies. The source added that the team also found five bodies in a house in the same neighborhood, one of them was for a four-year-old child.

Residents complained about the slow pace of exhumations, especially from under the rubble of destroyed residential buildings, causing the spread of smells in some neighborhoods.

On Saturday, the team pulled out 22 bodies from the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, after the residents informed the team about them. On Thursday, the team also pulled 11 unidentified bodies out from a cemetery near the zoo.

The Response Team continues to exhumation the bodies from the mass graves left behind by the International Coalition bombing during the battle to control the city, in addition to the graves left by the Islamic State.
