Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Tuesday, the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration (Rojava) confiscated eight shops in the city of al-Raqqa, accusing their owners of belonging to the Islamic State (IS).

One shopkeeper told SMART that the Asayish confiscated five shops in the al-Sinaa Street and three in the al-Hadid Street in the eastern part of the city.

On the procedures that the shop owners may resort to, the source said that they will file a complaint to the al-Raqqa civil council and then wait for the date of the appeal. The source expected that the response will be delayed by more than two months due to the increase in the number of shops and properties confiscated by the Rojava.

An employee at the Municipality of the People in al-Raqqa said that the number of shops and real estate confiscated are about 250 in the city of al-Raqqa, while another 200 and a shop in the city of al-Tabaqa.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) have already confisticated the homes of about 24 families and prevented them from entering the area of youth housing in the city of al-Raqqa. Last June, the YPG also expelled families from their homes in the city of al-Raqqa on the pretext that the building is threatened to collapse. A source from the Asayish said that the YPG leaders seized 90 houses and farms in al-Tabaqa, on charges that their owners belong to IS.
