Turkey - SMART

The Syrian government signed a contract to export apple and grape crops from the governorate of al-Suwayda, Southern Syria, to Russia.

On Monday, the Tishreen Syrian official newspaper reported that the Minister of Internal Trade, Abdullah al-Ghrabi, said that they are ready to buy apple crops from al-Suwayda on the condition of buying all the crops, including the crops prepared for the internal market and the crops prepared for production.

During a meeting with directors from the governorate, al-Ghrabi added that the ministry will reopen the al-Jabal juice factory in order to solve the production problem.

Earlier, Syrian farmers complained about the demand and crops' prices, such as citrus crop in Latakia, grape crop in Homs, and vegetable crops in Hama. The prices of vegetables and fruits continue to increase in local markets; however, the Syrian pound exchange rate to the US dollar dropped over the last years, and 1 USD is now 500 SYP.
