Al-Hasakah - SMART

The al-Asayesh forces, affiliated with the Kurdish Autonomous Administration, closed private schools (institutes) in al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, for teaching the Syrian government curriculum.

Local activists and sources reported that the al-Asayesh closed the schools of al-Awael, Farman, and al-Quds. They closed the schools as an implementation for the Kurdish Autonomous Administration resolution that prohibits teaching Syrian government curriculum within its controlled areas.

The Kurdish Autonomous Administration adopted a resolution to close the Syriac private school in the city of al-Malkia, al-Hasakah. A Syriac organization issued a statement afterward, considering that this action is a form of pressure on the Syriacs.

Six of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration educational staff banned Kurdish people from entering a Syriac school, saying that the students should learn the Kurdish language.

In October 2015, the education body of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration obliged private and public schools in the al-Jazeera area to teach Kurdish curriculums.
