Turkey - SMART

The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlut Cavusoglu, stated that he hopes to reach to a solution with Russia about Idlib, Northern Syria.

Cavusoglu added during a press conference in Ankara with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, that the Syrian government bombing in Idlib, because of the tourists, means committing a massacre. He also urged to solve the area.

Days ago, the U.N. called for emergency negotiations to prevent the bloodbath among civilians.

The residents of Idlib fear the Syrian Government and Russia breaking into the area since they returned to bomb Idlib, killing and injuring 50 civilians. This took place after the Syrian President threatened of launching a military campaign to seize Idlib and the areas outside of the Syrian government-controlled areas.

The de-escalation agreement, signed by the Astana talks guarantors: Russia, Turkey, and Iran, includes Idlib. Turkish and Russian control points spread in the area to monitor implementing the agreement.
