Damascus - SMART

A United Nations Peacekeeping (UNDOF) delegation met with the Syrian Minister of Defense in the ministry's headquarters in Damascus.

The Ministry of Defense's official channel published a video showing Ali Ayoub, the Syrian Minister of Defense, with a UNDOF delegation headed by Brigadier General Francis Vib-Sanziri.

The ministry added that the two parties discussed the coordination approaches between the Syrian government and the UNDOF administration regarding the relocation of UNDOF forces in the separation area and the ceasefire line in the occupied Golan Heights, according to the Agreement on Disengagement from 1974.

The ministry stated, "We also made plans to reactivate the al-Quneitra Gate crossing," to secure the safety of civilians while crossing from the occupied Golan to Syria, under the supervision of the Red Cross.

The meeting was the first between the two parties after the Syrian government seized al-Quneitra, Southern Syria, and the Free Syrian Army factions reached to an agreement with Russia.

Earlier in July, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the Russian President Vladimir Putin that he suspects the Syrian government will implement the disengagement agreement "strictly."

Two weeks ago, Russian forces secured a path for the UNDOF forces to enter the occupied Golan from al-Quneitra without passing via Lebanon.
