Idlib - SMART

On Tuesday, a Syrian government rocket shelling killed a civilian in a town in Western Idlib, Northern Syria. The Syrian government forces also shelled Southern Idlib.

Local activists reported that the Syrian government forces stationed on the al-Akrad mountainous area in the Latakia countryside shelled the town of Badama in the Jisr ash-Shughur area, killing a civilian.

Syrian government helicopters dropped barrel bombs on the villages of Umm al-Khalakhil and Umm al-Tina amidst artillery shelling on the villages of al-Lwaibida, al-Khowain, al-Tina, al-Mushrifah, and the al-Skik village farmlands.

On Monday, the Syrian government forces bombed two villages in the Maarrat al-Nu’man area, 35 kilometers south of Idlib, killing and injuring 12 civilians, including women and children.

On Saturday, intense Syrian government airstrikes hit cities and towns in Idlib, killing and injuring 50 civilians.

The Idlib governorate is included in the de-escalation zone agreement, which was reached by the guarantor states of the Astana Talks; Russia, Iran, and Turkey. The Syrian government forces did not commit to the agreement as President Bashar al-Assad threatened to seize Idlib by force if its residents refuse to reconcile.
