Idlib, SMART

On Wednesday, Syrian government forces’ rocket shelling and airstrikes killed and injured civilians, south of Idlib, Northern Syria.

Ziyad Aboud, the head of the Civil Defense in the Khan Sheikhoun Nahiyat, reported the Syrian government helicopters dropped barrel bombs and naval mines on agricultural lands in the village of al-Aziza in al-Tamani’a, south of Idlib. Aboud added that the bombing killed a child and injured other civilians and it coincided with a rocket shelling on the area.

Aboud noted that the rocket shelling killed three civilians. Aboud added that the Civil Defense transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

The bombings came a day after dozens of civilians fled villages in Southern Idlib for fear of the Syrian government forces’ bombings amidst recent intensified bombings on the area.

The people of Idlib fear a potential Syrian government military campaign against the governorate, as recent airstrikes killed and injured civilians. President Bashar al-Assad threatened to seize Idlib by force if no peaceful reconciliation takes place in the governorate.
