Idlib - SMART

On Wednesday, the Ahrar al-Shamal Brigade in the city of Andan, north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, announced it merged into the formation of the National Liberation Front (NLF).

In a statement, the brigade said that it joined the ranks of the National Liberation Front to unite the ranks of the revolutionaries against the Syrian government.

The brigade includes the brigades of Mohammed Salloum, Martyr Ali Balu, Sukour al-Shamal, Martyr Rabih Hamsho, Thuwar al-Shamal, al-Mubasherin, Martyr Khader Hamsho, Maghawir Adnan, Fursan al-Shamal, Martyr Abu Salmo Shagal, Martyr Ahmad Alo, and Saraya al-Shahada, according to the statement.

In the recent few days, several prominent Free Syrian Army factions in Idlib and Aleppo joined the formation of the National Liberation Front after the Syrian government president, Bashar al-Assad, threatened to launch a campaign to seize Idlib and areas outside its control in Lattakia.

Last May, the National Liberation Front was formed from the merger of prominent factions in Northern Syria. It includes the factions of the Sham Corps, the 1st and 2nd Coastal Battalions, the 1st Infantry Division, the Idlib Free Army, the Second Army, the Elite Army, the al-Nasr Army, Martyrs of Islam Daraya, Freedom brigade, and the 23 Division. Later, factions of the Syrian Liberation Front, the Sukour al-Sham brigades, the al-Ahrar Army, and the Damascus Gathering joined the National Front.
