Hama - SMART

On Wednesday, a source reported that the Turkish forces operating in the monitoring point near the city of Mourik, Hama, informed them that they would put an end to the Syrian government bombing. The Syrian government has launched an intensive bombing campaign on Eastern and Southern Idlib.

The source, along with seven other people, met with Turkish officers in the monitoring point. He said that the Turkish forces invited them to talk about the Syrian government bombing. The Turkish forces informed the group that they will put an end to the bombing within 48 hours, after getting a response from the Turkish government.

The source pointed out that the Turks said that the Syrian government “does not commit to the de-escalation agreement.” He continued, “the Turkish forces assured us that the Syrian government would not advance in the area and the Free Syrian Army factions are ready to repel its attempts.”

On July 12, two sources reported that Turkey gave assurances for the residents of Idlib, after the spread of news about a suspected Syrian government and Russian military operation. The news spread after the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, threatened to launch a campaign to seize Idlib and the areas outside of the Syrian government control in Latakia.

The de-escalation agreement, signed by the Astana talks guarantors: Turkey, Russia, and Iran, includes Idlib. Turkish military bases spread in the city to monitor the implementation of the agreement requirements.
