Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Thursday, civilians found two bodies of Islamic State (IS) members in a neighborhood in the city of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria.

Local sources reported that civilians found the IS members' bodies in the al-Haramiya neighborhood, west of downtown al-Raqqa. The sources added that the civilians identified the bodies as IS members based on the identity documents found on the bodies.

The sources noted that the bodies belong to ex-IS members of the Diwan al-Jund, meaning the soldiers' office, which is an administrative center similar to governmental ministries. The office is concerned with recruiting members, buying weapons, managing captives, salaries, and so on.

Since the Syrian Democratic Forces gained control of al-Raqqa, residents and the Initial Response Team have found hundreds of bodies of civilians and IS members killed in International Coalition bombings or by the hands of the IS when they seized the governorate.
