Al-Raqqa - SMART

On Thursday, the Initial Response Team (IRT) retrieved bodies from a public park and from under the rubble of a destroyed building in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-controlled al-Raqqa city, Northeastern Syria.

A source from the al-Raqqa Civil Council reported that the IRT retrieved five bodies from the al-Bado neighborhood. They also found an explosive belt in the same area.

The source added that the IRT retrieved bodies that might be from the same family in the al-Haramiyah neighborhood, according to its residents.

The IRT also retrieved four bodies from a grave in the Panorama park, according to the source.

On Monday, the IRT team retrieved seven bodies from under the rubble of a destroyed building in al-Raqqa.

Activists hold the International Coalition and the SDF responsible for killing hundreds of civilians in al-Raqqa. The International Coalition and the SDF killed civilians in indiscriminate bombings during the battle to regain control of al-Raqqa from the Islamic State (IS). The IS killed others by planting explosive devices during the battles.

The International Coalition has admitted killing 1,059 civilians in airstrikes on Syrian and Iraq between August 2014 and June 2018. Mass graves of people killed by the IS have also been discovered.
