Aleppo - SMART

On Friday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) demanded the residents of nine villages in Southern Aleppo to flee their homes within 48 hours. The HTS's demands came after it announced the area as a military zone to protect the civilians from Syrian government bombing.

The head of the local council of Zamar village, Abdul Hadi Abu Hussein, reported that the statement includes the villages of Jazraya, al-Othmania, Zamar, al-Jadida, Talafeh, Hawir, Tal Bajer, Banos and Borna. He pointed out that the residents fear any suspected military campaign, and that their financial conditions do not allow them to rent 100 US dollar houses.

Abu Hussein added that the HTS issued the statement last night. The Turkish military base in the area gave the 25,000 residents assurances, after most of them refused to leave.

The Aleppo Gate media, affiliated with the Syria Gate Network, quoted the HTS commander of the northern desert, who is known as Abu Raafat, saying that they have certain information of a suspected Syrian government military operation in the area. The HTS demanded the residents evacuate, because the houses are next to the guarding checkpoints.

On Aug. 13, residents from the Western neighborhoods of Aleppo  fled the city after there were rumors about mobilizing the Syrian government reinforcements to start a military campaign in the Western suburbs of Aleppo.
