Al-Hasakah - SMART

The people of al-Qamishli in al-Hasakah, Northeastern Syria, go to markets after a relative decline in clothing and food prices prior to the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.

Civilians reported that the business in al-Qamishli's markets is better than last year, coinciding with a relative decline in the prices of Turkish-made goods, such as oils and clothing, after the devaluation of the Turkish lira.

The civilians added that the high US dollar exchange rate increased the market demands, since many families receive money from their children living abroad.

Yousef Ahmad, a money exchange shop owner, stated that the USD exchange rate has been changing in the past week. It increased to 450 Syrian pounds for one USD after being 440 SYP, then settling at 445 SYP.

The al-Asayish security forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration increased the security in its controlled areas in Eastern Syria in preparation for potential explosions as Eid al-Adha approaches.
