Al-Suwayda - SMART

On Tuesday, families of the women kidnapped by the Islamic State (IS) from the governorate of al-Suwayda organized a protest, demanding the international community's intervention to release the kidnapped women kidnapped by the IS in July.

Dozens of people and activists from the city participated in the protest, calling on the United Nations, Staffan de Mistura, and the international community to intervene to release the kidnapped women.

The people protested in the Sultan al-Atrash Square in front of the Syrian government's governorate building.

Earlier, people organized several protests demanding the acceleration of negotiations to release the kidnapped women after one of the women died and the IS executed one of the kidnapped young men.

On July 25, 2018, the IS attacked the city of al-Suwayda and several villages in the Eastern al-Suwayda countryside, killing and injuring hundreds of people. The IS also kidnapped several women, amidst the lack of military support by the loyalist forces against the IS.
