Al-Raqqa - SMART

Food prices increase in the markets of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, as a result of the Syrian Democratic Forces' (SDF) closure of commercial crossings leading to the city during the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.

On Tuesday, the first day of Eid al-Adha, local sources told SMART that the prices of food and vegetables have increased markedly in the markets of al-Raqqa compared to last Sunday. The price of a kilo of chicken meat and cooking oil increased by one hundred Syrian pounds.

The sources added that prices of vegetables and fruits have become relatively high. One kilo of tomatoes, cucumbers or potatoes ranges from 40 to 50 SYP, while the prices of gold and foreign currencies remain stable.

The sources stated that the high prices came after the SDF decided to temporarily close all commercial crossings linking its controlled areas with those controlled by the Euphrates Shield Operation factions in Aleppo and those controlled by the Syrian government.

Two days ago, the Asayish forces of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration issued a decision to impose security measures in their controlled areas in Eastern Syria, fearing that there would be explosions during Eid al-Adha.
