Deir ez-Zor - SMART

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested 18 people on charges of carrying out military operations for the Islamic State (IS) in Eastern Deir ez-Zor, Eastern Syria.

On Thursday, a local source told SMART that the SDF arrested people in the towns of Teyana and Thepan because of their involvement in IS attacks on SDF sites in Teyana and the al-Omar oil field.

On Aug. 18, IS members wearing explosive belts attacked the al-Omar oil field, which was taken by United States forces as a military base. After the US gained control of the base, clashes killed and wounded dozens of IS members.

The SDF stormed a house in the town of Abu Hammam, east of Deir ez-Zor, and arrested three forcibly displaced people from the city of Albuqamal on charges of dealing drugs, according to the source.

The SDF arrested hundreds of people in Deir ez-Zor on various charges, most notably belonging to the IS, trafficking people and drugs. Most of the people that were arrested were enlisted to compulsory service in the SDF's ranks.
