Aleppo - SMART

A civilian and an armed group member were killed during clashes in the city of Afrin, 25 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria.

On Sunday, a knowledgeable source reported that the armed group did not belong to the Free Syrian Army. The group, which is led by a person from Deir al-Zor called Abu Ghamid al-Shahil, attacked a civilian after a dispute over a property. The civilian, who owned a weapon, clashed with the group.

The civilian, Majid al-Hassoun, and a member of the armed group were killed in the clashes, which injured the group leader, Abu Ghamid.

The source said that the armed group members are known to use hallucination pills and other drugs, denying what several activists said about the clashes being caused by an attempt to arrest al-Hassoun for belonging to the opposition faction Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

The incident came a day after unknown kidnappers released a girl from Afrin after receiving a 10,000 US dollar ransom.

Activists from the Afrin area have accused the Free Syrian Army (FSA) of several kidnappings, killings and thefts, after the FSA and the Turkish Army gained total control of the area, expelling the Kurdish People's Protection Units in May 2018.
