Afrin - SMART

On Sunday, the Military Police and the Third Brigade sent forces to al-Sheikh Hadid near Afrin, 43 kilometers north of Aleppo, Northern Syria, to arrest several members of the al-Sultan Suleiman Shah Legion accused of rape, including the legion's commander.

Local sources reported that the forces besieged al-Sheikh Hadid and searched for the members and people close to them, as the members refused to appear before a judicial committee for investigation.

On Aug. 23, 2018, commanders of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army formed a committee to follow up on the rape case. The woman Israa Khalil accused the commander of the al-Sultan Suleiman Shah Legion of raping her several times after the commander tricked the woman's husband, who is a fighter in the legion.
